Turkish Airlines, the global carrier flying to more countries than any other, is hosting the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) World Safety and Operations Conference (WSOC) in Istanbul, running from October 6 to 8, 2026. Convening under the theme “Performance Through People,” the premier event brings together global aviation leaders to address the central role of human capability in maintaining safe and resilient operations.
The conference focuses on the intersection of human expertise and advanced technology, exploring how artificial intelligence, data analytics, and automation can be harnessed to strengthen risk management while empowering frontline personnel.
Addressing Geopolitical Risks and Safety Culture
Delivering the opening address, Turkish Airlines CEO Ahmet Olmuştur also joined a high-level CEO panel titled “Geopolitical Risk and its Impact on People Performance,” sharing strategic insights on navigating operational complexities in a dynamic global landscape.
”Safety is at the heart of everything we do at Turkish Airlines,” said Ahmet Olmuştur, CEO of Turkish Airlines. “The value of our technological investments is ultimately realized through the knowledge, experience, and sound judgment of our people. A strong safety culture relies on continuous learning, open communication, and shared responsibility. We are proud to welcome the global aviation community to Istanbul to foster collaboration that drives the safe, sustainable growth of our industry.”
Echoing these sentiments, Nick Careen, IATA’s Senior Vice President for Operations, Safety, and Security, highlighted the critical role of industry professionals:
”People are the foundation of aviation safety. While technology sharpens our insights, it is the leadership, skills, and judgment of aviation professionals—backed by robust global standards—that turn innovation into safer daily operations. We thank Turkish Airlines for hosting WSOC 2026 and for their continued leadership and commitment to industry collaboration.”
Core Tracks and Technical Sessions
WSOC 2026 features four specialized tracks: Safety, Cabin Operations, Flight Operations, and Crisis Management. Over the three-day event, workshops and forums are addressing critical industry priorities, including human-centered safety frameworks, workforce development, airspace efficiency, turbulence management, and emergency response planning.
By hosting WSOC 2026, Turkish Airlines reinforces its commitment to international operational excellence, placing human performance at the center of the future of aviation safety.
