Embedding Sustainability Across Operations
The recognition comes as Orange Egypt continues to integrate environmental considerations into its operational activities while developing its telecommunications infrastructure and expanding its digital services. This approach supports more efficient resource utilization and reinforces the company’s commitment to achieving its long-term environmental objectives.
Renewable Energy Drives the Green Transition
Renewable energy currently accounts for approximately 44% of Orange Egypt’s electricity consumption, reflecting the company’s ongoing efforts to transition toward cleaner energy sources. These initiatives support the company’s strategic commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040 through accelerating the transition to renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, and embedding sustainable practices across its operations. The strategy also addresses the growing energy consumption and infrastructure requirements associated with the telecommunications and technology sectors.
Advancing the Circular Economy Through Device Recycling
As part of its commitment to the circular economy, Orange Egypt continues to implement its electronic device recycling and refurbishment program, which aims to extend device lifespans, minimize electronic waste, and recover reusable resources and components.
Through the program, the company has collected more than 3,600 devices across over 40 stores for recycling and refurbishment. By the end of 2025, sales of refurbished devices had exceeded 2,000 units, highlighting the initiative’s growing reach and its contribution to extending device lifecycles through refurbishment.
Expanding Access to Technology in Upper Egypt
Orange Egypt’s sustainability efforts extend beyond electronic waste management to broadening access to technology within local communities. The company has established computer labs equipped with refurbished devices in community schools across Upper Egypt, giving students greater access to digital learning tools while promoting the more efficient use of existing technological resources.
Empowering Youth Through Sustainability Innovation
The company also prioritizes innovation and youth empowerment in sustainability through its participation in the One Circle ICT Reboot Ideathon competition, which encourages young Egyptians to develop innovative solutions that advance the circular economy.
The initiative has generated more than 100 innovative solutions, promoting a culture of reuse, leveraging technology to address environmental challenges, and encouraging more sustainable approaches to managing resources and electronic devices.
Aligning Digital Transformation With Environmental Responsibility

By combining technological advancement with resource efficiency, the company continues to broaden access to digital learning opportunities and foster innovation within local communities.
Hesham Mahran joined Orange Egypt in 1998, the year of the company’s establishment, and assumed the role of Managing Director and CEO in 2025.
His inclusion in Forbes Middle East’s 2026 Sustainability Leaders list for the second consecutive year highlights the growing importance of integrating sustainability into telecommunications business strategies, particularly as increasing demand for digital services drives greater energy consumption and infrastructure requirements.
